About

Welcome. I’m Jessie. Thanks for stopping by. I am a social media coach, generational consultant, speaker, hula hooper and Iconic GenXer living in Columbia, Md. Here’s a bit of show and tell about who I am and what I do. Happy clicking.

An Iconic GenXer.

I use technology. I create systems. I live, eat and breath marketing, pr and communications. I’m pragmatic. I’m interested in what works. I’m a Lone Ranger when I need to be, a nimble team player when that’s the best route, an ingenious problem-solver when the need arises … and it often does. I do a li’l of this and a li’l of that. I am, in essence, an Iconic GenXer. Specifically, I’ve –

  • Supported, concept to launch, the development of a new program for young leaders in the museum industry.
  • Conducted a complex research project for a philanthropy group.
  • Helped sell a unique property.
  • Wrote a white paper for a private placement memorandum.
  • Managed website development for clients here, here, here and here.
  • Launched a small business partnership producing a line of elegant note cards.

Entrepreneurs and organizations hire me to get things done. I offer project design, implementation and consulting services, mostly in the realm of communications and marketing.

A Social Media Coach.

My personal and client work frequently involves new media — the convergence of marketing, communications and customer service on the web — and strategies involving blogs, YouTube, Facebook, social bookmarking, social technology, podcasts, lenses, search results, online reputation and more. Specifically, I –

  • Blog here, here and here.
  • Am on Facebook and know how to use it intentionally.
  • Understand how to use social bookmarking, such as del.icio.us.
  • Have an active YouTube account, plus a number of groups and subscribers.
  • Routinely use Socializr … and a host of other new media, social technology, social networking — call it what you will — sites.
  • Am involved in many local and online communities using social technology. Watch, here, an impromptu interview Shashi Bellamkond, Social Networking Swami at Network Solutions, did with me.

Entrepreneurs and organizations hire me as a social media coach to identify opportunities particular to their corporate culture, marketing and communication goals, and personal comfort levels with the transparency of social media.

A Translator for America’s Generations.

In the next five years particularly, organizations throughout America will begin to feel the shift of the Millennial generation moving into young adulthood. The shift will impact everything from workplace issues, to marketing, to communications, to customer service, to education, to housing and more. I have an applied expertise in generational theory, and I understand the pressures, the players and the solutions to this generational shift. In short: I find practical solutions for organizations to connect with the varying interests of America’s generations.

Entrepreneurs and organizations hire me for customized classes and consulting services. I also offer public classes and blog about generations here and here.

Living Locally … as an American City Girl.

Living locally, developing a resilient community and expanding local relationships through social technology is a key and underlining component of my life, values and activities. A resident of Columbia, Md., in Howard County, in the middle of the Baltimore-Washington corridor, I –

Entrepreneurs and organizations hire me to find highly specific solutions for communicating with hyper-local customers.

Hula Hooping and Social Dancing.

It’s a long story. The short version is that I love to hula hoop and to do social dancing (dancing with a partner). True to my orientation toward technology, systems, communicating and social media, I –

  • Blog and cover the local, albeit currently small, hoop scene.
  • Carpool and promote, via social technology, contra dances in Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
  • Create resources for other hoopers to use such as those here, here and here.

My Peeps.

Big love to my mom, my dad, my sister and my brother. Eternal gratitude to my friend and Thinking Buddy. And thanks to every single person — past, present and future — who is, has been, or will be part of my life. It’s all good.
